Four Kittitian Cricketers Selected for CWI High-Performance Camp Ahead of 2027 U-19 World Cup

Zara Skerritt, Aaliyah Weekes, Leanga Warner, and C’Quinya Dasent are among 22 of the Caribbean’s leading female Under-19 players selected for the two-week programme in Antigua. Their selection is particularly notable as all four players chosen from the Leeward Islands are from St. Kitts, highlighting the island’s growing contribution to the region’s emerging women’s cricket talent. The achievement was welcomed by Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew, who congratulated the four players and described their selection as a source of national pride. He stated, ‘This is a remarkable achievement for Zara, Aaliyah, Leanga, and C’Quinya, and one in which the entire country should take tremendous pride. To have all four of the Leeward Islands selections coming from St. Kitts speaks powerfully to the quality of our young cricketers and to what can be achieved when talent is matched with discipline, opportunity, and the right support.’ Running from August 17 to 29, the High-Performance Camp follows the CWI Rising Stars Women’s Under-19 Championship, which concluded on August 15. The camp is part of CWI’s wider player-development pathway, assessing and preparing young athletes who could form part of future West Indies squads. Players were selected based on their performances in the regional championship, technical assessments, World Cup eligibility, tactical awareness, temperament, competitiveness, fitness, and overall squad balance. During the programme, the players will focus on technical and tactical skills, physical conditioning, and mental preparation. The camp aims to familiarise them with the demands, standards, and expectations of international-level cricket. For St. Kitts, the presence of all four Leeward Islands selections in the 22-player group underscores the depth of young female cricketing talent emerging from the Federation.
