Huawei and HP announced a multi-year Wi-Fi patent deal. This is a global patent cross-licensing agreement where Huawei will license specific Wi-Fi patents to HP. In August 2025, Huawei filed a patent infringement lawsuit against HP, accusing it of using a patented Wi-Fi 6 invention in its computers without a proper license. The lawsuit was halted when HP joined the Sisvel Wi-Fi 6 patent listing, granting HP rights to nearly 2000 Wi-Fi 6 patents. Huawei has since ended the dispute by signing this multi-year deal. Under the contract, Huawei will allow HP to use parts of its wireless technology patent portfolios, including Wi-Fi 7 standards. HP will pay a fee to Huawei for legally utilizing these patents in its laptops, PCs, computers, and printers. In return, Huawei can use HP’s patent portfolio, enhancing its recognition for innovation and technological strength. Alan Fan, Huawei’s Chief Intellectual Property Officer, emphasized that this agreement reflects Huawei’s commitment to sharing innovations through patent licensing, particularly in standardized technologies, benefiting consumers. The collaboration positions both companies as leaders in their respective fields.
