Joe Root on the verge of history, Ricky Ponting’s all-time record in sight

Joe Root will return to the England captaincy for the first time since Ben Stokes’ retirement during a three-Test series against Pakistan, starting at Headingley. He needs 166 more runs to reach 12,000 international runs in a single country, a landmark achieved by only six players globally.
