Love does not follow a calendar, nor does it wait for the “perfect” age. While some people meet their soulmate in their twenties, others spend decades searching for a connection that truly feels right. Society often places invisible deadlines on relationships and marriage, but there are those who refuse to settle until they find the person who genuinely complements their life. Veteran actor Suhasini Mulay’s story is one such reminder that happiness can arrive when least expected—even at 60. For acclaimed actor Suhasini Mulay, marriage was never about fulfilling social expectations. Instead, it was about finding the right companion. In a recent conversation with Suhana Safar, the National Award-winning actor reflected on marrying for the first time at the age of 60. “I married for the first time at the age of 60. Until then, I hadn't found the right match. My husband is a very well-known scientist. When he talks about science, I don't understand a thing, but he is a wonderful human being,” she said. Mulay, known for memorable performances in films like Lagaan and Jodhaa Akbar, had long believed she might remain single. Yet fate had different plans. The turning point came unexpectedly while she was browsing the internet. She stumbled upon the Facebook profile of physicist Atul Gurtu, who had worked on the Large Hadron Collider project. Recalling the moment, she shared, “I saw Atul's profile and thought, ‘Physicists are on Facebook too?’ He was working on the Large Hadron Collider. Since I have always been interested in science, I sent him a message asking, ‘What is LHC?’” That simple question sparked regular conversations, eventually blossoming into a relationship. According to earlier reports, the pair spent months interacting online before meeting in person and later tied the knot in January 2011, proving that meaningful connections can emerge in the most unexpected ways. Mulay’s marriage challenged conventional ideas surrounding age and companionship. Rather than rushing into a relationship earlier in life, she chose patience and authenticity over societal pressure. Her journey stands as a refreshing example that love is less about timelines and more about finding someone whose values, kindness and companionship resonate deeply. What began with scientific curiosity and an innocent online message ultimately became a lasting partnership—showing that sometimes the best chapters of life are written much later than expected.
