Mitsubishi is making this sick Pininfarina-designed electric crossover

Mitsubishi makes only a handful of electric vehicles (EVs) globally but is expanding its lineup with a Pininfarina-designed crossover, the ASX VR-e, set to arrive in Australia later this year. The vehicle features a distinctive unibrow headlamp and recessed grille, designed by Pininfarina, a firm behind iconic cars like Ferrari, Maserati, and Alfa Romeo. It is a rebadged version of the Foxtron Bria, produced by Foxconn’s automotive division in Taiwan. The Bria was first shown two years ago and began selling in Taiwan last December. The base model has a 230-hp rear-mounted electric motor and a 57.7-kWh LFP battery, achieving a 0-60 mph time of 6.8 seconds and a range of 320 miles (516 km) under NEDC conditions. The top-end model with dual motors delivers 400 hp, all-wheel drive, and a 0-60 mph time of 3.9 seconds, with a range of 290 miles (466 km) on a full charge. Fast charging at 134 kW allows 10%-80% charge in half an hour. Mitsubishi plans to introduce unique styling touches for the ASX VR-e, including front and rear ends, cabin, and wheels. The interior features a 15.6-inch infotainment screen, wireless charging, ADAS systems, a 360-degree parking camera, and a powered tailgate. Mitsubishi has not yet confirmed battery and powertrain options for the ASX VR-e’s four variants. While NEDC range tests are often optimistic, the Bria’s performance suggests real-world range may be slightly lower. The ASX VR-e is positioned as an alternative to the MG 4 and BYD Dolphin in Australia, targeting compact SUV-sorta buyers. Mitsubishi’s slow pace in expanding its US market is notable, with plans to revive the off-roading Pajero SUV in the Northern Hemisphere fall, but no US launch expected before 2030.
