New Volkswagen Tukan Pickup. Image – Motor1 In the Brazilian market, Volkswagen Tukan will replace the ageing Saveiro and primarily challenge the bestselling Fiat Strada. Volkswagen is progressing on its mega product offensive for Brazil and other Latin American markets, with plans to launch 21 products by 2028. The all-new Tukan pickup has been revealed in Brazil at the Barretos Rodeo Festival. It will be offered in both single and double cab versions and is expected to launch in early 2027. The design features top-mounted LED DRLs, sleek headlamps, and a wide grille in blacked-out finish. The single cab version focuses on utility with steel wheels, while the double cab version has blacked-out pillars and robust grab rails. The pickup has vertically stacked tail lamps and ‘TUKAN’ stamping on the tailgate. The bumper area has a full-width stepped profile for easy cargo bed access. The Tukan will be larger than the Saveiro, which has been in production since 1982. The single cab version targets commercial applications, while the double cab targets mainstream buyers. The Tukan is built on the MQB platform, with a rigid rear axle and leaf springs for durability. Powertrain options include a 1.6-litre petrol engine for entry-level variants, a 1.0-litre flex engine for mid variants, and a 1.5 TSI Evo2 with a 48-volt mild hybrid system for top variants. The Tukan is exclusively for Latin American markets, with no plans to expand globally.
