Pair cycle height of Mount Everest for friend living with breast cancer

A pair of dedicated cyclists, Karl Watson and Mark Rodgers, both members of the Ridgeway Riders Cycling Club based in Weymouth, have completed an extraordinary challenge. They cycled the height of Mount Everest, equivalent to over 29,031 feet (180 miles), by ascending and descending the Ridgeway between Weymouth and Dorchester 90 times in 21.5 hours. This was done to raise funds for Breast Cancer UK, with support from fellow club member Alaine Harman undergoing treatment. The event was part of their ongoing efforts to support vital causes, including a previous challenge for Prostate Cancer UK. The team faced extreme conditions, including heat, and described the experience as challenging, with physical effects lasting weeks. They raised £1,775 against a £1,000 target, with donations still accepted. The club also completed the 441-mile RAID Pyrenean challenge within 100 hours, raising £1,667 for MV Freedom, which supports people with disabilities. The Ridgeway Riders meet weekly on Saturdays and emphasize community and personal growth through cycling.
