Wensleydale Railway is operating five special park-and-ride heritage trains between Leeming Bar, Bedale, and Leyburn on September 5, 2026. These trains provide dedicated transport and extra bicycle storage for spectators attending the Stage 4 finish of the Lloyds Tour of Britain Men’s Cycle Race in North Yorkshire. The service runs five scheduled round-trip trains from Leeming Bar through Bedale to Leyburn Station, allowing spectators to reach the finish line at Leyburn Market Place without contributing to road congestion around the Yorkshire Dales. Bicycle storage coaches will permit passengers to carry intact bicycles free of charge with a valid travel ticket. The initiative includes a family-friendly 'Kids for a Quid' ticket promotion, offering children aged 3–15 travel for just £1 when accompanied by a paying adult. Additionally, a free community shuttle bus connection operates directly to the race finish area. The Stage 4 finish in Leyburn is expected to draw thousands of spectators, and the railway’s structured timetable allows flexibility for early arrivals, exploration of Leyburn’s historic market square, and convenient evening returns. The final return train departs at 6:30 PM. Park-and-ride stations at Leeming Bar and Bedale provide ample vehicle parking for seamless transfers onto heritage rail services. Wensleydale Railway is also advancing a 5.5-mile Leyburn–Redmire track restoration project, aiming to reopen passenger services by 2027.
