Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 15, 2026, introduced the 'Sapta Dhara' framework—a seven-point plan to propel India toward becoming a developed nation by 2047. The framework focuses on seven key areas: manufacturing, agro-food production and food processing, technology and innovation, logistics, defense, green and blue economy, and soft power. Modi emphasized manufacturing as the first strength, urging India to establish itself as a trusted global supply chain partner by meeting global standards in cost, quality, and scale. He stressed that Indian manufacturers should prioritize trust and quality, with no compromises on product standards. The second stream centers on agriculture and food processing, encouraging farmers to access global markets through Free Trade Agreements (FTAs). Traditional Indian products like millets, spices, and organic produce could become global brands if they meet international standards. The third stream is technology and innovation, with Modi calling for India to become a hub for emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, space exploration, robotics, and data centers. He highlighted India’s digital public infrastructure, including UPI, and aimed for 'Made in India' 6G technology to reach global markets. The fourth strength is Gati Shakti, focusing on high-speed connectivity and seamless urban infrastructure, including high-speed rail networks. Modi also emphasized port-led development, stressing that ports should drive economic growth beyond mere loading and unloading. Defense was the fifth strength, with Modi advocating for India’s self-reliance in defense technologies, including hypersonic weapons, drones, and cybersecurity. He called for India to emerge as a global leader in defense innovation. The sixth stream is the green and blue economy, encompassing renewable energy, green hydrogen, energy storage, green mobility, and ocean technology. Modi highlighted opportunities in fisheries, coastal tourism, and sustainable practices. The seventh stream is soft power, leveraging India’s cultural and spiritual strengths, including yoga, Ayurveda, handicrafts, films, and digital content. He encouraged greater foreign tourism and the exploitation of India’s natural resources, such as forests and national parks. Modi stressed that the seven streams should be integrated into a holistic approach, ensuring progress across sectors to achieve India’s development goals. The combined strength of these initiatives will drive India’s progress toward becoming a developed nation by 2047.
