JOHANNESBURG - The rand has broken through the key R16 to the dollar level, touching R15.99 for the first time in almost six months. A weaker US dollar, rising gold and platinum prices, and stronger foreign demand for South African bonds are supporting the currency. Investec says investor confidence has improved, with about R63.7-billion flowing into the country's debt markets this year. The rand is expected to strengthen further. Investec forecasts an average of R15.90 to the dollar in the final quarter of 2026.
