The Kirkby actor and his wife, Hannah Walters, were both pictured wiping away tears during Christine Tremarco's speech. Stephen Graham was in tears during an emotional moment at last night's BAFTA TV Awards. The prestigious ceremony at Royal Festival Hall in Southbank on Sunday, May 10 was a real celebration of Scouse talent as Merseyside was represented throughout the nominees. Tuebrook's Christine Tremarco was one of the Liverpool winners as she was recognised for her incredible performance as Manda Miller in Adolescence. The Scouser paid tribute to her co-star, Stephen, and his wife Hannah Walters, during her acceptance speech. She said: "Oh my goodness. Thank you so much BAFTA. I feel so privileged to be standing up here holding this BAFTA. I feel so honoured to be a part of Adolescence. I hold this Bafta high to Hannah Walters and Stephen Graham, thank you so much. Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for giving me Manda and thank you to both. To our long time friendship. To the wonderful Jack Thorne. Our brilliant director, Philip Barantini, thank you. To Owen [Cooper] and Amelie [Pease], the best onscreen kids ever. To all of our wonderful cast, especially Ashley [Walters] and Faye [Marsay]. To our phenomenal crew, thank you. This is to us all." Kirkby actor Stephen was visibly emotional during the speech and the camera of the TV broadcast cut to him in the crowd as he wiped away tears. It was a special evening for Stephen as he also picked up the Best Lead Actor nomination in what was the final award of the ceremony. Stephen's BAFTA completes the set as he has also won a Golden Globe and Emmy for his devastating performance as Eddie Miller in the Netflix show. The Best Lead category was stacked full of Merseyside talent and Stephen paid tribute to fellow Scouse nominees, Ellis Howard and James Nelson-Joyce, who were both inspired to pursue a career in acting because of Stephen's success. He said: "I'm going to take my time. I've been nominated eight times and this is the first time I've won. I'd like to thank all my fellow nominees. Especially our James and our Ellis. Both of you are magnificent." Stephen also paid tribute to the Scouse actor who opened his eyes up to a career in acting being a possibility. He added: "When I was a kid, I watched a telly programme called Scully, written by Alan Bleasdale, and it had the wonderful Drew Schofield in. He lived across the road from my nannas house so he showed me that I could be on the telly. Drew was such a wonderful man. He was my inspiration so for any other young kid, no matter where you're from, anything is possible." The ECHO spoke to James and Ellis on the red carpet ahead of the ceremony, who both paid tribute to the influence Stephen has had on their career. This City Is Ours star James said: "Stephen Graham has opened the door for me and many other actors. He has held the door open on his way up to the very top. He has not forgotten about giving back and helping people. He gives advice on auditions and agents, I realise how lucky I was to be one of those people he looked out for." What It Feels Like For A Girl star Ellis added: "Growing up listening to someone like Stephen Graham on television really blew up the parameter for the dreams I had for myself. I suddenly felt like there was a world out there that allowed to dream bigger." Stephen's desire to give back was on full display as Ellis shared the story of when he found out he had been nominated for a BAFTA. He said: "I cried my eyes out when I found out I was nominated. I was in an airport terminal and they must have thought I was mental. I looked down and Stephen had phoned me, which I was so grateful for. To hear my name uttered next to these men is just amazing."
