Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO for over 15 years, will step down by the end of August, and John Ternus, the company’s engineering and hardware head, will take over Cook’s role starting September 1. Just before his departure, Apple hosted a farewell event on August 23, 2026, at its campus, marking Cook’s 15th anniversary as CEO. Around 200 employees and guests gathered at the Caffè Macs cafeteria to celebrate Cook, with performances by OneRepublic and speeches from prominent Apple figures, including Laurene Powell Jobs, Jeff Williams, Eddy Cue, and Ternus. Cook acknowledged his partner, Mike, during the event, a rare public mention of his personal life. While Cook remains at Apple as executive chairman from September 1, he will continue working with governments and policymakers. His executive assistant will also stay with Ternus, ensuring continuity. Concurrently, Apple is preparing for new product launches in September, including the iPhone 18 Pro models and the first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Ultra. The company will also release iOS 27 with enhanced Siri and AI features. Ternus is expected to announce these developments at the Apple event.
