Blake Griffin spent 14 seasons in the NBA. His next move: hosting a late-night show called 'The Stepback with Blake Griffin,' a new weekly show premiering Tuesday, Oct. 20, on Prime Video and YouTube. The debut aligns with the opening night of the 2026-27 NBA season. The show will focus on sports-related topics like gambling, NIL, taxpayer-funded stadiums, analytics, and sports journalism. Production began months ago, with episodes now in post-production. Griffin’s commentary-driven format replaces traditional celebrity guests. He draws inspiration from shows like 'The Daily Show' and 'Last Week Tonight.' The project is produced by Amazon’s Wondery and Griffin’s Mortal Media, a company he co-founded with former NFL player Ryan Kalil. Griffin is already part of the Amazon family as an analyst on NBA on Prime. While his athletic career made him famous, comedy isn’t entirely a post-retirement pivot—he has performed stand-up, appeared on 'Broad City,' and made comedy videos with Funny or Die. Recent sports late-night shows, like ESPN’s 'They Call It Late Night with Jason Kelce' and James Corden’s 'FIFA World Cup on FOX After Hours,' have attempted to blend late-night comedy with sports culture.
