Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar has criticised the ICC and the BCCI for their handling of recent disciplinary violations by young players Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal. He argues that the two bodies are ‘training’ players to repeat such behaviour by letting them get away with it. Manjrekar wrote on ‘X’ that if players like Sooryavanshi and Jaiswal are not disciplined, they will continue to engage in confrontations. Both players have been involved in heated on-field altercations, with Jaiswal defending his actions even after an incident where he and Sri Lanka seamer Asitha Fernando exchanged words and made physical contact. Fernando was fined 25% of his match fee, and both received demerit points for the altercation during the second Test in Colombo. In June, 15-year-old Sooryavanshi was involved in a heated argument with a Sri Lanka A player after a one-day tri-series loss, where he was seen pushing a fielder after an incident with bowler Kaguthas Mathulan. Despite criticism, Sooryavanshi did not face any disciplinary action from the BCCI.
