An image collage shows Heliot Ramos #17 of the San Francisco Giants making a hit during game one of a doubleheader against the Philadelphia Phillies. The ball appeared to be a home run, but it was caught by Cedric Mullins, leaving Ramos stunned. The Giants’ broadcasters also thought it was gone. This incident occurred during the Giants' first dinger of their road trip in the second inning against the Rays, with Griffin Jax pitching. Ramos connected on a 3-2 fastball to straightaway center field, but Mullins made a late adjustment, catching the ball instead of it going over the wall. The trajectory of Ramos’ swing was 33 degrees with a speed of 107.9 mph. Eight similar fly balls have been caught inside Tropicana Field since Statcast began tracking batted-ball data in 2015, all resulting in home runs except this one. Ramos was at second base when the catch occurred, remarking, “There’s no way,” as he returned to the dugout. The call was confirmed by the umpire, and the Giants’ manager Tony Vitello and crew led to two players being ejected. The Giants had not hit a home run since leaving San Francisco six days prior, marking their last win at home against the Marlins. They had scored the fewest runs in the majors and had not scored since a walkoff loss against the Phillies 16 innings prior. The catwalks at Tropicana Field can affect home run calls, but no video review angles were available to confirm the interference.
