Manoj Bajpayee's Gandhi Film Unveils Plot, Adds Cast, Producer

Indian thespian Manoj Bajpayee’s first screen portrayal of Mahatma Gandhi will focus on a previously undisclosed chapter of India’s independence history. The film, directed by Sudhir Mishra, includes Saurabh Shukla in the cast, with Narendra Hirawat and NH Studioz as producers and presenter, respectively. Anubhav Sinha’s Benaras Mediaworks is producing the film, marking Sinha’s return to theatrical releases after directing films like ‘Mulk’ and ‘Thappad.’ The film explores the 21 days in Gandhi’s life during India’s independence, a lesser-known period when he chose to walk away from the political center in Delhi. This narrative delves into his personal journey of reinvention, contrasting historical records with the deeper motivations behind his actions. Mishra highlights that this story reveals the personal transformation of a leader during a pivotal moment in India’s transition to freedom. Mishra, known for his three Indian National Film Awards, including best debut film and best feature film in Hindi, has a long career spanning over four decades. Bajpayee, also a multiple award winner, takes on Gandhi’s role for the first time. The film’s production involves Sinha’s Benaras Mediaworks and NH Studioz, with A.R. Rahman’s music expected to be featured. This project follows Hansal Mehta’s Gandhi series, which has yet to be released on streaming platforms.
