Restock, reload: Bullets' roster reset takes shape

When the Brisbane Bullets face the New Zealand Breakers in Round 1, they may feature four new players in their starting lineup. Pete Hooley, a coach and analyst, described this as the biggest uncertainty of the off-season, noting that the team has never played together before. The Bullets have been rebuilding after several disappointing seasons. Hooley stated, 'If we're talking about their ceiling based on what's currently on the roster, they can be very good. They've got the pieces.' The team's early success was evident on Saturday night when they won 46 points against an NBL1 North Select team. Since naming Will Weaver as head coach in March, Brisbane has strategically built their roster. Hooley praised Weaver's approach, saying, 'Weaver has been very strategic; he took his time and built the roster around a clear strategy. In a league where many teams focus on fast-paced play and threes, he's chosen a different path, aiming to create something unique.' The Bullets have recruited Arnas Velička, a pass-first point guard from Europe, and plan to pair him with Tyrell Harrison, one of the best local bigs in the competition. Nate Hinton and Jaylin Williams are expected to contribute as well. Hinton scored 22 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, and dished out 6 assists in his debut. Harrison matched him with 24 points and 8 rebounds. Lanard Copeland, an NBL legend, expressed excitement about the team but believes their peak performance may come later in the season. 'The question is whether they can put everything together,' he said. 'Chemistry will take time because that's always part of building a new team. The talent is there, but chemistry takes time.'
