Review: The Green Eyes

The second feature by Fanny Liatard and Jérémy Trouilh, *The Green Eyes*, explores the emotional journey of a family of immigrants—Chaya (Douae Butarbuch M’Zaouki), Nour (Sayyid El Alami), and their father (Omar Aljbaai)—who live in fear of being deported to a country they no longer recognize as their own. Their lives are marked by trauma, particularly the loss of their mother, which they struggle to confront. Despite their hardships, they find temporary solace in the French region of Landes. However, when their asylum request is rejected, their world collapses. Nour, suffering from "resignation syndrome," withdraws into a deep sleep, while Chaya battles to keep him grounded. Their dream of staying in Landes shatters, leaving them to confront the harsh realities of their situation. The film also features Benjamin (Arcadi Radeff), a rebellious and idealistic character, and Mamé, their grandmother, who offers them refuge. The story blends psychological depth with symbolic elements, depicting how trauma and fear reshape their reality.
