After raids on hotels and canteens of government establishments, the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) led by Tukaram Mundhe issued show-cause notices to Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Tiger Shroff for endorsing an advertisement for Vimal Elaichi. The FDA claims the campaign could constitute surrogate or indirect promotion of prohibited pan masala or tobacco-related products. The notice grants them 15 days to submit a written explanation. If no satisfactory response is received, further legal action may be taken under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The notice highlights that the Vimal brand is prominently linked to pan masala, which is banned in Maharashtra. Recently, the FDA suspended the license of a Pizza Hut outlet in Karad due to alleged food safety violations, including improper use of separate ovens and pans for vegetarian and non-vegetarian pizzas. During another inspection, 55 kg of misbranded and substandard frozen paneer was seized from an Akola outlet. The FDA’s special drive targeted 104 chain restaurant establishments, ordering two to halt operations, issuing improvement notices to 95, and suspending licenses for five.
