TV tonight: Lydia West’s offbeat college campus murder mystery

He Had It Coming 11.15pm, BBC Three Lydia West stars in this offbeat Australian comedy-drama about a murder on a university campus. It follows a grungy feminist art student, Elise (West), and her unlikely new influencer mate, Barbara (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), who get drunk and deface a statue – only to wake up and find that the institution’s star athlete was killed in the same spot overnight. Can they cover their tracks? Hollie Richardson Beethoven’s Seventh at the Proms 7pm, BBC Four The Los Angeles Philharmonic returns to the Proms , conducted by surprise World Cup final half-time show participant Gustavo Dudamel. It’s an evening of vibrant rhythm and vital energy, as Beethoven’s ecstatic Seventh Symphony is paired with Mexican composer Gabriela Ortiz’s Revolución diamantina. Jack Seale Bergerac 9pm, BBC Two This reboot emphasises the darker aspects of detective Jim Bergerac’s character. As the endgame approaches, Bergerac seems to have the measure of Pippa Haywood’s Margaret. But there’s a danger that his emotional investment in catching Cate’s killer might blow him off course. Phil Harrison Frank Skinner: 30 Years of Dirt 9pm, Sky One A welcome return to the warm bosom of the standup special for the one-time national treasure. Skinner riffs on pensioner-age concerns, including the appearance of his long-term partner (“She doesn’t even have laughter lines!”), Harold Shipman and landlines. More adult animated fun from hapless detective Marvin Flute (voiced by Jon Hamm) whose titular town has become ever more comically crime-ridden. This time, a homage to a particular genre of American teen fiction as Flute visits a summer camp where a slasher is leaving a trail of bloody destruction. PH Ann Droid 10.40pm, BBC One Robots go camping – what could possibly go wrong? Diane Morgan’s comedy drama about a widow and her carer robot just gets funnier and more poignant as Sue (Sue Johnston) and Linda (Morgan) stay at a campsite. But as the series heads to its end, so too does the question of Linda’s future. HR Film choice Hamnet (Chloé Zhao, 2025), 8.10am, 8pm, Sky Cinema Premiere Married to the Bard ... Photograph: Agata Grzybowska/Focus Features From a Roman muscle man in Gladiator II to William Shakespeare, Paul Mescal has certainly been showing his range of late. But in Chloé Zhao’s version of Maggie O’Farrell’s superb novel, he has to play second fiddle to Jessie Buckley . It’s her Oscar-winning turn as Agnes – the Bard’s unsung wife – that gives the drama its gut-wrenching power. Agnes is the heart to Will’s brain, more attuned to the mysteries of the natural world, and aware that his genius will take him away from her. But their differing reactions to a family tragedy push them further apart ... Hamnet is a difficult book to adapt, its potency coming from its unarticulated emotions, but Zhao has pulled it off brilliantly. Simon Wardell On Falling (Laura Carreira, 2024), 11.05pm, BBC Two Portuguese immigrant Aurora (Joana Santos) works as a “picker” in an Amazon-style warehouse in Scotland. It’s a monotonous but time-sensitive job that has reduced her to a zombie-like state; she’s too tired and poor to enjoy her free time and struggles to connect with her mostly foreign colleagues and flatmates. And when her phone needs a costly repair, that’s all it takes to tip her over the edge. Laura Carreira’s debut feature is heart-breaking social realism with a Ken Loach feel, but where he rails at capitalism’s evils, Carreira sees bureaucratic indifference.
