'Welcome home, bab,' Call the Midwife star back in Brum

Birmingham-born actress Helen George, known for her role as Trixie Aylward in the hit BBC drama *Call the Midwife*, is performing in her home city at the Alexandra Theatre as part of a UK tour of the classic 1956 musical *High Society*. She expressed joy at returning to Birmingham, calling the audience "kind, responsive and lovely" and noting that theatre staff left a welcome "big bar of Cadbury chocolate" in her dressing room. George, who grew up in Harborne, also mentioned taking her co-star Freddie Fox to a Balti during their run. Freddie Fox, playing the role of Frank Sinatra’s character Mike Connor, shared that his first musical theatre role fulfilled a childhood ambition. He praised the support from the cast and described the experience as a dream come true, singing songs from Cole Porter’s *High Society*. Fox, brother of actor Emilia Fox (known for *Silent Witness*), also fondly recalled performing at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre. Helen George discussed parallels between her *Call the Midwife* character and the 1930s New York socialite she plays in *High Society*, noting shared traits like alcohol preference and a love for men. She also teased that she might return to *Call the Midwife* for a new series or film, adding that she is waiting to hear if the show will continue. The revival runs until Saturday, 22 August, as part of a UK tour until November.
