Blind Date is making a comeback – with Love Islander as host

Blind Date is returning to screens with a new host, Maura Higgins, after over two decades since the original Cilla Black-led version ended. The show, previously revived multiple times, is now being produced and aired by Disney+ for the first time. While Disney+ promises a modernized format with innovative twists and drama, the core concept remains unchanged: contestants choose between three potential dates hidden behind a wall. Higgins, known for her straight-talking humor and experience as a reality TV contestant, is praised for her ability to engage new audiences. Her background includes stints on Love Island US, Celebrity Traitors, and upcoming appearances on Dancing with the Stars. The show’s revival aims to attract contemporary audiences, leveraging Higgins’ profile and Disney+’s platform. Blind Date first aired in 1985, peaking with 18.2 million viewers per episode, and was hosted by Cilla Black until its cancellation in 2003. Subsequent attempts to revive the show, including specials in 2006 and 2013 and a Channel 5 revival in 2017, were unsuccessful due to low ratings.
