During opening night of his 30-show run at New York’s Madison Square Garden on Wednesday, Harry Styles took a moment to honour country icon Dolly Parton following her death on Tuesday. "I just wanna give a proper thank you to all the musicians who have inspired me over the years. Dolly, we love you. Thank you so much," Styles said to the sold-out crowd and raised his clasped hands to the sky. As he played her recording of "I Will Always Love You," the arena filled with the light from thousands of cell phones as attendees swayed to the music and sang along to the classic hit. Dolly Parton's song, famously written as an emotional farewell to her mentor Porter Wagoner, topped the country chart in 1974. In 1992, Whitney Houston recorded it for *The Bodyguard*, making it a Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper for 14 weeks. It remains a signature song and closing number in many of her live shows. Styles' tribute is part of numerous global remembrances following her death after a brief battle with cancer at 80. Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Kacey Musgraves, Jack White, every living president, Jane Fonda, and countless others have mourned her.
