Marvel reportedly cuts major MCU hero from Avengers: Doomsday

It's been a long time coming but we are just months away from another Avengers movie. Avengers: Doomsday will mark the opening salvo in the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga, with Earth's Mightiest Heroes reuniting to battle Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom. However, the team composition has changed significantly since 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, featuring new characters like Shang-Chi, Shuri’s Black Panther, the Thunderbolts, and the Fantastic Four alongside returning MCU mainstays such as Thor and Sam Wilson’s Captain America. Reports indicate that Sentry’s role in Avengers: Doomsday has been significantly trimmed. Initially a major part of the film, Lewis Pullman’s character, Bob (Sentry), is now expected to have only brief appearances in the final battle sequence. This decision comes after the Thunderbolts film, where Bob’s struggles with mental health and his transformation into Sentry were explored in depth. The film’s post-credits scene explicitly set up his role in Avengers: Doomsday, suggesting his return would be pivotal. However, Marvel Studios has reportedly reduced his screentime, which has disappointed fans expecting a major presence for Sentry, a powerful superhero in both Marvel Comics and the MCU. The Sentry’s role in the final act of Avengers: Doomsday is speculated to involve preventing an incursion, possibly explaining his absence from earlier battle scenes. If confirmed, this could make his eventual return one of the film’s most impactful moments. Additionally, Avengers: Doomsday is set to release on December 18, 2026, with fans eagerly awaiting the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga.
